WILLOW WOOD — In a showdown for first place in the Southern Ohio Conference, the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings’ offense was a no-show.

The lady Vikings shot just 28 percent from the field in a 57-36 loss to the Portsmouth Notre Dame Lady Titans on Thursday.

“We got in a little foul trouble, but we just didn’t shoot well and we never got anything going offensively. We didn’t get in any rhythm or offensive flow,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Alvin Carpenter.

Notre Dame is now 6-0 overall and 5-0 in the SOC-I. Symmes Valley fell to 4-2 and 4-1.

The Lady Vikings were led by Jensyn Shepherd with 14 points, 10 rebounds and 4 steals. Payton Walsh added 11 points, 7 rebounds and 4 steals.

Hagen Schaefer had a game-high 24 points to lead the Lady Titans. Ragan Kayser and Lexie Smith scored 14 points each.

Schaefer scored 8 points in the first quarter as the Lady Titans jumped in front 16-8. She scored 7 in second quarter to offset 6 points by Walsh and it was 25-16 at the half.

Notre Dame erupted in the third quarter to take a 46-27 lead. Shepherd scored 7 of the Lady Vikings’ 11 points in the quarter.

The Lady Vikings play a varsity-only game at 4 p.m. Saturday at South Gallia.
