Pointers hold off Blue Devils, 7-6

SOUTH POINT — The hit parade was marching on Monday.

South Point and Gallipolis combined for 26 hits as the Pointers beat the Blue Devils 7-6 in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

South Point had 11 hits led by Chris Woodard who was 3-4 while Douglas Shaffer, Johnathan Henline and Brandon Layne all went 2-4. Tanner Hall had a home run.

Gallipolis (3-1, 1-1) had 15 hits led as Kole Carter, Matt Bailey, Anthony Sipple and Eric Ward all had two hits.

After a scoreless first inning, Gallipolis scored three runs in the second.

Marcus Moore singled, Braden Simms was hit by a pitch, Carter singled and Bailey and Sipple both doubled.

The Pointers got two runs back in the bottom of the inning when Logan Wade reached on a two-out error and Tanner Hall hit a two-run homer.

The Pointers took the lead with four runs in the third.

Christian Pritchard was hit by a pitch and Shaffer, Woodard, Henline, Layne and Drew Logan all singled.

The lead went to 7-3 in the fifth when Hall walked and came around to score when Pritchard reached on a three-base error.

Gallipolis got two runs in the sixth as Moore singled, John Stout doubled and Carter and Sipple both singled.

The Blue Devils rallied for a run in the seventh when Ryan Terry singled, moved up on a passed ball and scored on a hit by Josh Faro.

South Point hosts Cross Lanes Christian on Tuesday.
