CHESAPEAKE — It was share and share alike.

The Green Bobcats and Chesapeake Panthers split a pair of games on Saturday. Green won the opener 6-4 and Chesapeake took the nightcap 7-5.

In the first game, Chesapeake took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Kelton Jones walked, stole second and third, and came home on a throwing error.

Green took the lead with two runs in the fourth.

Tayte Carver singled, stole second and Trevor Carver had an RBI double. Tyler Darnell followed with a run-scoring single.

Green got four runs in the sixth.

Tyler Johnson walked, Hayden Whitis singled and Hunter Lewis reached on an error to load the bases.

Tanner Kimbler had a two-run single and Tayte Carver doubled home two more.

The Panthers tried to rally as they scored three in the seventh.

Casey McComas and Dakota Blankenship doubled for a run. Zach Wright singled home the runner. Wright then and stole second and third and scored on Dalton Nida’s base hit.

Trevor Carver struck out 10, walked two and gave up five hits to get the win.

“Carver had a real solid outing. He threw just 92 pitches,” said Green coach Dan McDavid. “We got two big hits from our freshmen in the key sixth inning.”

In the second game, Chesapeake built a 7-2 lead and held on for the win.

Green took a 2-0 lead in the first when Kimbler doubled, Rylee Maynard was hit by a pitch, a fielder’s choice moved the runners up and both scored on wild pitches.

In the second, Dalton Nida reached on an error, Kolton Webb beat out a bunt single, Wright sacrificed the runners and reached on a throwing error as both runners scored to tie the game.

The Panthers took the lead with two runs in the third.

McComas walked, stole second and Blankenship singled for a run. Webb walked and Nida hit a sacrifice fly.

Chesapeake got three runs in the fifth to lead 7-2.

Blankenship walked, Blake Ashworth put down a sacrifice and Nida was safe on an error to put runners on the corners. Webb walked to load the bases and Josh Hansen walked to force in a run.

Austin Browning then had a two-run single to cap the rally.

Green came back with two runs in the sixth when Maynard and Tayte Carver walked and Karshner had a two-run double.

The Bobcats got a rally going in the seventh that produced a run.

Whitis and Lewis singled to put runners on the corners. A fielder’s choice scored the run but Blankenship was able to retire the side and save the win.

They fought back and played tough give them credit. We had a couple of miscues and gave up some free passes.

On Monday, Green (8-7) visits Sciotoville East and Chesapeake goes to South Point.
