SOUTH POINT — Seems like old times.

The Chesapeake Panthers used the old fashion style of baseball to edge the South Point Pointers 2-1 on Monday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

“It felt like an old school win. We got good pitching, played good defense, we hit at times and executed a couple of bunts,” said Panthers’ coach Justin Davis.

“We don’t have any overpowering pitcher. Kolton Webb pounded it in there well. He was down all day long and his slider was effective. He was just really good at staying down.”

Webb gave up four hits, struck out three and walked two.

Logan Wade took the loss. He allowed six hits, struck out six and walked one.

The Panthers (5-5, 4-4) got a run in the first when Jones singled, stole second, Casey McComas sacrificed him to third and scored when Dakota Blankenship grounded out.

South Point tied the game in the second.

Tanner Hall singled, moved up on a ground out, took third on a wild pitch and scored on Christian Pritchard’s base hit.

Chesapeake scored the winning run in the fourth.

Blake Ashworth singled, Kolton Webb singled and both runners moved up on an error. Kobe McWhorter then squeezed home pinch-runner Wesley Stephens.

On Wednesday, Rock Hill plays at Chesapeake and South Point visits Gallipolis.
