PORTSMOUTH — It was an instant replay.

The Symmes Valley Vikings lost to the Portsmouth Notre Dame Titans 2-0 for the second time in three days as they got excellent pitching but only one hit.

After Chayden Renfroe lost a 2-0 decision to Notre Dame on Monday, Laykin Gothard pitched a four-hitter but also suffered a 2-0 loss on Wednesday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

“Gothard impressed me. He threw a heck of a game and the defense was good. We only had one error. We’ve just got to hit the ball. We left too many runners in scoring position,” said Vikings’ coach Chad Renfroe.

Hayden Baker work six innings to get the win. He struck out 14, walked five and hit a batter.

Shawn Belville singled for the Vikings’ only hit.

Notre Dame got the only two runs of the game in the fifth when Baker singled, Tyler Speas walked and Chase Rodriguez doubled them home.

The Vikings hosts Eastern on Friday.
