CHESAPEAKE — The Chesapeake Lady Panthers got what they needed when they needed.

Good pitching and clutch hitting keyed the Lady Panthers 4-2 Ohio Valley Conference win over the Fairland Lady Dragons on Friday.

Webb pitched a two-hitter to get the win. She struck out three and did not walk a batter.

“Webb pitched really well and we got a lot of clutch hits,” said Chesapeake coach Aaron Rice.

Chesapeake jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning.

Kelsey Huff and Ryleigh Swann singled and Webb hit into a fielder’s choice to load the bases. Jordan Storms then got a clutch hit as she belted a two-out double to clear the bases.

Fairland closed to within 3-2 in the top of the fifth when Olivia Adkins, Nicole Wagner and Allison Shepherd all reached on errors.

The Lady Panthers got a run back in the bottom of the inning.

Webb drew a one-out walk, Melanie Noble bunted and reached on an error. With runners at first and third, Brianna Russell hit a sacrifice fly to score Webb.

Shepherd took the tough-luck loss. She struck out six, walked three and gave up only six hits.

On Monday, Chesapeake visits Coal Grove and Fairland hosts South Point.
