CINCINNATI — In the “Braggin’ Rights Classic,” the Fairland Lady Dragons had plenty to brag about.
Fairland used good offense and defense to breeze past the Cleveland Villa Angela-St. Joe Lady Vikings 65-30 Tuesday morning in the Girl Powher Showcase “Braggin’ Rights Classic” at Winton Woods High School.
Fairland (7-0) placed 11 players in the scoring column led by Emily Chapman with 17 points and Issy McKinney 10 while the Lady Dragons defense forced 24 turnovers.
McKinney also had 4 rebounds and 4 assists.
Fairland was 28-of-51 from the field for 55 percent and Chapman made 5-of-7 from the 3-point line.
“Issy played well. She was aggressive. Her and Morgan Fridley played really well off the bench for us today,” said Fairland coach Jon Buchanan.
Buchanan was impressed by the defensive effort.
“Issy played well. She was aggressive. Her and Morgan Fridley played really well off the bench for us today,” said Buchanan.
Chapman hit a pair of 3-pointer and scored 8 points and Allie Marshall also made two 3-pointers as Fairland erupted for 27-4 first quarter lead.
Fairland limited VASJ to just 14 field goal attempts in the first half in opening up a 45-11 cushion. Fridley scored 5 of her 7 points in the second quarter.
“We started off really well. Obviously, when you hold someone to 30 you’ve done a good job defensively. We held them to 11 points in the first half. We were able to press them and our pressure was the key,” said Buchanan.
Chapman came back to knock down two more triples in the third quarter as Buchanan began emptying his bench.
Fairland will play Dayton Thurgood Marshall at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
