PEDRO — Tyler Damron, Tim Adkins, Nate Malone, Jaret Bacorn and Brady Knipp took to the Rock Hill court for the last time and their teammates were caught in the emotions.
The underclassmen stepped up Tuesday as the Redmen beat the Symmes Valley Vikings 47-37 on senior night.
“Our team came together to send our seniors out with a win in their last game at home. I’m proud of our effort,” said Rock Hill coach Sam Gue.
Rock Hill was led by Mason Darby with 19 points and 12 rebounds while Bacorn celebrated his final home game with 11 points and eight rebounds.
Symmes Valley (7-12) got 12 points from Sam Angelo while Chayden Renfroe added eight.
Vikings’ coach Donnie Saunders pointed to 14 turnovers and 3-of-20 shooting from behind the 3-point line. Rock Hill had just six turnovers and was 17-of-23 at the line.
“Once we lost the lead they forced us to come out of our zone and play man and that hurt us,” said Vikings’ coach Donnie Saunders.
“We also hurt ourselves with turnovers and we didn’t get to the foul line. That was our fault. But Rock Hill has played people tough and lost a lot of close games.”
The Vikings took a 10-8 first quarter lead as Renfroe and Payton Hayes each hit 3-pointers. Darby had four points for the Redmen.
Angelo scored four points as the Vikings took a 16-13 halftime lead.
Rock Hill (3-17) came to life in the third quarter and outscored the Vikings 18-10.
Logan Hankins hit a key pair of 3-pointers while Darby and Bacorn scored six points each to account for Rock Hill’s scoring and the Redmen led 31-26.
The Vikings were forced to foul in the fourth quarter and the Redmen responded by converting 12-of-17 led by Darby who was 5-of-5 and scored seven points in the quarter. Jake Blagg added four points including 2-of-2 at the line.
Jarod Sheppard and Angelo scored four points each and Renfroe hit a 3-pointer in the quarter.
On Friday, Rock Hill visits South Point and Symmes Valley travels to Portsmouth Clay. The Vikings are at St. Joseph on Saturday.
