The St. Joseph Female Flyers should take up writing TV suspense shows.
The Female Flyers have won three straight games in thrilling fashion as they improved to 5-2 on the season.
St. Joseph swept a doubleheader from the New Boston Lady Tigers on Saturday and then held off the Sciotoville East Lady Tartans 10-8 on Tuesday.
The Female Flyers banged out 14 hits with six different players getting two hits each led by Megan Riley who drilled her first home run of the season.
St. Joseph scored three runs each in the fifth and sixth innings to win 8-7.
Alex Holtzapfel went the distance for for the win.
The Female Flyers used clutch hitting by Karly Young and Morgan Turner to produce a 7-6 win in the nightcap.
In the second game, St. Joseph was down by two in sixth inning when Young had a pinch-hit double to tie the game. Turner then lined a single into centerfield to drive in the winning run.
Holtzapfel notched her fourth win of the season in relief of Kelsey Malone who pitched 4.1 innings and allowed just three runs.
On Tuesday, St. Joseph built a 10-2 lead highlighted by Ashley Bartram’s power surge as she hit two home runs and drove in seven runs.
East rallied with six runs in the sixth inning to get within 10-8, but the Flyers defense and the pitching of Holtzapfel shut off the Lady Tartans’ comeback hopes.
Holtzapfel not only went the distance for the win but went 3-5 at the plate.
St. Joseph will host Hannan, W.Va., in a doubleheader on Saturday and travel to Grace Christian on Monday and Fairland on Tuesday.
