When the Flyers and Eagles meet, it’s to see who can go the highest.
Just call them Air St. Joseph.
The St. Joseph Flyers used an eight-run second inning to fly past the Fairview Eagles 13-8 on Tuesday.
The Flyers had 10 hits to go with their 13 runs and also drew six walks — three by Tyler Ward.
Peyton Adkins, Isaac Whaley and Chase Wilds each went 2-4. Zack McGraw and Clay Willis were 1-4 with three runs batted in and Chase Walters was 1-4 with two RBI.
After a scoreless first inning, Whaley and Tyler Ward walked. Andrew Lawson put down a sacrifice and was safe on an error to load the bases.
Wilds singled, Willis walked, Adkins singled, McGraw was hit by a pitch, Walters and Whaley singled and Ward walked to force in the final run.
Fairview got a run in the top of the third on singles by Brett Canterbury, Mason McIntyre and Preston Ledford, but the Flyers got two in the bottom of the inning when Wilds, Adkins and McGraw all singled along with an error.
Brett Johnson hit a home run for Fairview in the top of the fourth only to have the Flyers score two more.
Whaley singled, Ward drew hit third walk, Wilds hit into a fielder’s choice and Willis singled.
The Eagles scored five runs on six hits including three doubles and a triple in the fifth and it was 13-7.
The Flyers got their final run in the fifth when McGraw walked, stole second and third and scored when Whaley walked and got caught in a rundown.
The Eagles final run scored in the seventh when Hunter Adams reached on a dropped third strike and Mark Ekers’ double.
St. Joseph hosts Coal Grove on Thursday.
