Last week, South Point police conducted a raid on a home in the village searching for stolen items.

According to police chief Chris Mahjer, while recovering these alleged items at the home, where they had received several complaints, officers also found narcotics and drug paraphernalia.

Earlier this year, Chesapeake police conducted what leaders said was one the biggest drug busts in the village’s history.

According to Randy Lewis, who was the police chief at the time, officers recovered heroin, oxycodone tablets, methamphetamine, a loaded handgun and $6,670 in cash and two were arrested.

A search warrant for one of the suspect’s residence turned up 65 grams of methamphetamine, two firearms and $7,551 in cash.

While the issue of drugs in the region can feel overwhelming at times, it is important to note the efforts of those who have helped to maintain strides from a law enforcement perspective.

And on the recovery and treatment issue, groups such as Riverside Recovery, Spectrum Outreach and the ADAMHS Board of Adams, Lawrence and Scioto Counties are working to help those fighting addiction to triumph.

The drug issue in Lawrence County is a battle that must be fought on many fronts, and we salute all those who are helping to curb this epidemic.
