WILLOW WOOD — The Symmes Valley Vikings weren’t looking for revenge.
Just a win.
The Vikings found what they wanted as they beat the Green Bobcats 40-8 in a Southern Ohio Conference game on Friday.
Symmes Valley (3-2, 1-1) avenged last season’s loss to the Bobcats who fell to 1-4 and 0-2.
The Vikings racked up 304 yards rushing behind a balanced attack.
Layken Gothard had nine carries for 97 yards, Derek Crum ran seven times for 68 yards and Keifer Wilson three attempts for 52 yards.
“It was a good win. We had a couple of rough weeks where we played some good competition. Our kids bounced back well,” said Vikings’ coach Rusty Webb.
“We had good balance in backfield and we got the job done up front with our offensive and defensive lines. We’re pleased with the win.”
The Vikings jumped to a 19-0 first quarter lead.
Crum had touchdown runs of 18 and 4 yards and Derik Brace added a 6-yard scoring run. Keifer Wilson kicked two conversions.
Gothard took over in the second quarter as he ran 16 yards for a score to make it 26-0 and then later returned a punt 48 yards for a touchdown and it was 33-0 at the half.
The Vikings held the Bobcats on downs to start the second half and then Wilson ran 34 yards for a touchdown and it was 40-0.
Green avoided the shutout when Tyler Roberts broke free on an 82-yard scoring run. Roberts also ran for the conversion.
Next Friday, Symmes Valley visits Beaver Eastern and Green hosts Portsmouth Notre Dame.
