Dragons, Redmen lead Div. 2 district golf qualifiers

McDERMOTT — Some local golfers are still swinging.
The Division II sectional tournament was held Tuesday at the Portsmouth Elks Country Club with several local teams and golfers advancing.
The Fairland Dragons and Rock Hill Redmen both advanced to the district tournament along with four other individuals.
Rock Hill senior Logan Reed shot rounds of 35 and 38 to card a 73 and tied Talon Osborne of Waverly for medalist honors.
Piketon won the tournament with a 333 score, one shot ahead of Waverly. Fairland was third at 343, Rock Hill fourth a 362 and Wheelersburg fifth with a 372 score.
Individuals advancing were the Ironton Fighting Tigers’ James Carter who was 13th overall at 87 and teammate Brayden Easterling who tied for 14th with an 88.
Chesapeake Panthers Austin Jackson and Gallipolis’ Kaden Thomas also shot 88 to earned a trip to the district.
Clayton Thomas shot an 80 to lead Fairland. Reece Bellville had an 82, Mason Manns 88, Mihkail Auxier 93 and Connor Franklin 98.
Besides Reed, Jason Haywood shot a 91, Austin Riddle had a 93, Chase Nelson 105 and Isaiah McFann 118.
Chesapeake was sixth as a team at 374 led by Jackson. Jacob Lemley was next with a 90, Brandon Blair 96, Liam Thacker 100 and Beckett Sites 105.
Ironton finished ninth with a 415 score. Dreyden Osborne carded a 108 and Drew Williams 132 to complete the team scoring.
The South Point Pointers were 13th overall with a 467 total. Ryan Fett had a 93 to lead the Pointers followed by Ben Walls at 114, Hunter Koukos 129, Jared Whitt 131 and Wyatt Thacker 144.
The top five individuals and teams qualify for the district tournament at Crown Hill Golf Club on Wednesday, Oct. 4, in Williamsport on Route 22 near Circleville.
The top two teams and individuals at the district advance to the state tournament.
