Gillette, Shrout reach district

CHILLICOTHE — Alex Gillette is going again.
The Coal Grove Lady Hornets’ senior golfer is making another trip to the district golf tournament.
The girls’ Division II sectional golf tournament was held Monday at the Jaycees Golf Course with the top six teams and individuals advancing to next Tuesday’s district tournament at the Upper Landsdown Golf Club in Ashville.
Gillette had the third top score overall with an 81. The top two scores were by Ashley Offenberger at 77 and McKenzie Dietz with an 80, both on the winning Waterford team.
Fairland Lady Dragons sophomore Hanna Shrout shot an 82 and earned a trip to the district.
Waterford won the tournament with a 329 score to easily outdistance West Union at 377. Gallipolis had a 410, Westfall 413, Meigs 421 and McClain 422 to complete the qualifying teams.
One team and one individual not on the qualifying team will advance to the state tournament.
South Point shot a 432 to finish ninth as a team. Hannah Hall led the Lady Pointers with a 99 and Abby Zornes had a 100. Lucy Gannon was next with a 115, Hannah Roberts 118 and Emilee Carey 123.
Fairland’s Hannah Shrout shot an 82, Addi Speed 98 and Olivia Roberts 119.
Chesapeake’s Alaina Collins shot a 98, Ironton’s Tyler Shelton carded a 107 and Rock Hill’s Kelsey Olderham 121.
