St. Joseph Lady Flyers’ coach Bart Burcham wants a better start. In fact, he’ll just take a start.
The Lady Flyers came out of the gate ice cold and did not score in the first quarter as they lost 46-25 to the New Boston Lady Tigers in a Southern Ohio Conference game on Monday.
“I’ve got to find a way to start quicker,” said Burcham. “We need to relax and just let the game come to us.”
The Lady Flyers were playing with just seven players. Starting forward Emilee Blankenship is out with an injury and Chloe Sheridan was missing due to an illness.
Sammy Oiler hit a pair of 3-pointers and Kenzie Whitley added another as New Boston took a 14-0 lead the first quarter.
Lexus Oiler had 5 points in the second quarter to make it 23-5 at the half.
Bella Whaley had 5 points including a trifecta and Faith Mahlmeister scored 4 points in the third quarter and it was now 34-17.
Lexus Oiler scored 7 points in the fourth quarter as New Boston added to its lead.
Katlyn Sheridan, Faith Mahlmeister, Bella and Emma Whaley as well as Gracie Damron all had a field goal in the fourth quarter.
Mahlmeister finished with 8 points and 8 rebounds. Bella Whaley had 7 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists.
Lexus Oiler scored 14 to pace New Boston (6-2, 4-0).
The Lady Flyers (3-2, 2-2) host Portsmouth Clay on Thursday.
