Ironton resident makes University of Dayton dean’s list

DAYTON — Rebekkah Potter, of Ironton, made the University of Dayton dean’s list for the 2014 fall semester.

To qualify for the dean’s list, an undergraduate degree-seeking student must have a minimum of a 3.5 GPA for that semester and must have been enrolled for 12 or more credits that semester.

Heart institute to host special event

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — The Tri-State Goes Red for Women Celebration, sponsored by the St. Mary’s Regional Heart Institute and the American Heart Association, will be Friday, Feb. 7 at the St. Mary’s Conference Center, 2825 Fifth Ave. in Huntington.

Lunch will be served at noon with guest speakers Daniel D. Snavely, MD, interventional cardiologist and Gary Patton, PhD, LPC, NCC, manager, St. Mary’s Department of Mental Health Counseling and Employee Assistance Program.

Free heart/stroke screenings and shopping with local retailers will be offered from 10 a.m. until noon and from 1-2 p.m.

One attendee will win a free weekend for two to the Greenbrier, which includes a two-night hotel stay and breakfast each morning.

Tickets are $35 and can be purchased by calling 304-526-6029. All proceeds benefit the American Heart Association. Tickets must be purchased by Jan. 30.

 

Cabell County

sheriff settles

discrimination suit

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) — The Cabell County Sheriff’s Office has settled a discrimination lawsuit regarding its firearms qualification policy.

Media outlets report that the office agreed to pay $750,000 to resolve the lawsuit filed by former Sheriff’s Lt. Patrice Lambert.

Lambert’s lawsuit alleged that she was fired for failing to qualify for firearm use under the policy, while male colleagues who failed were given additional chances to qualify.

A similar lawsuit filed by former home confinement officer Cindy “Shellie” Stiltner was settled for $1 million in 2014.

completes nurse

anesthesia program

PITTSBURGH, Pa. — William C. Dressel, of Ironton, graduated with a master’s of nurse anesthesia from The University of Pittsburgh’s School of Nursing on Dec. 13.

Dressel is employed as a certified registered nurse anesthetist at Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington.
