Sometimes he even likes to eat more than his share.
Lewis did more than set the table Saturday as Ironton routed the Upper Sandusky Rams 16-0 in five innings.
Lewis went 4-4 with his second home run in as many days and drove in three runs to lead a 16-hit assault.
"Chad’s hitting the ball real well right now," said Ironton coach Mark Lewis. "We hit the ball well the last two games as a team, and I think a lot of that has to do with Chad getting us started."
The offensive outburst backed the strong pitching of senior Dan Meehan who fashioned a two-hitter. He struck out 10 in the shortened game and did not walk a batter.
"Danny pitched well, and even though it might sound funny, he can pitch better. I think a lot had to do with the nature of the game. We jumped out to a big lead right away and it’s hard to maintain your level of concentration," said coach Lewis.
Ironton jumped on Upper Sandusky immediately. Chad Lewis singled, stole second, and score on Nathan Myers’ double. Meehan crashed a 400-foot home run and Ryan Carmon followed with a solo shot and it was 4-0.
Drew Mains reached on an error and Chad Parker made his first career hit memorable as he lined a two-run homer to left. Jared Snead walked, went to third on a bad pickoff throw, and scored on Chad Lewis’ base hit.
Myers’ second double of the inning scored Chad Lewis and Meehan’s base hit made it 9-0.
Ironton, 5-1, got five more runs in the third inning.
Snead singled and and Chad Lewis homered to left. Myers singled, Meehan reached on an error, and Carmon had a sacrifice fly. Jon Sites singled, Mains doubled and Michael Schweickart hit a sacrifice fly.
The final two runs scored in the fourth inning.
With one out, Chad Lewis singled, Josh Lewis walked, and Meehan singled to load the bases. Jerod Perry walked to force in a run and Mains got an RBI single.
Myers went 3-3 with two RBI, Meehan was 3-4 with three RBI, Mains was 2-4, and Parker 1-3 with two RBI.
Ironton plays Spring Valley Tuesday at the old Ceredo-Kenova field.
