James Ferguson

SOUTH POINT — James H. Ferguson, 78, of South Point, died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008, at Heartland of Riverview.

He was born Dec. 11, 1929, a son of the late Fredrick Harold and Gladys Irene Adkins Ferguson. He was a retired carman for the C&O Railroad, Raceland, Ky., car shop. He was a member of Solida Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon 42 years. He was a former member of the Odd Fellow Lodge, was active in the South Point athletic boosters club and drove a school bus for the South Point Local School District.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Charles R. Ferguson and a great granddaughter, Denise Goldman.

He is survived by his wife, Gilberta Beard Ferguson, whom he married July 2, 1949; two sons and a daughter-in-law, J. Chriss Ferguson, of Columbus and Fredrick N. and Diane Ferguson of Verona, Ky.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Vickie and John Farley, of South Point and Anita and Kevin King, of Westwood, Ky.; six grandchildren; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Patricia and Leroy Erickson of Culloden, W.Va., and Elizabeth Burcham of South Point and a brother and sister-in-law, William and Sandra Ferguson of South Point.

Funeral will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Solida Missionary Baptist Church with Dr. Rock Dearfield and Pastor G.W. Rea officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at Tracy Brammer Funeral Home.

Thomas Woods

Aug. 24, 1947- Aug. 29, 2008

Mr. Thomas L. Woods, 61, of Ironton, died Friday, Aug. 29, 2008, at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky.

He was born Aug. 24, 1947 in Lawrence County, a son of Helen Duty Woods Webb, of Ironton, and the late Thomas H. “Doc” Woods.

He was a retired construction services coordinator for Dow Chemical Company and served in the 216th Engineer Battalion of the Ohio National Guard, He was a member of Lawrence Lodge 198 F&AM and was of the Baptist faith. He was a graduate of Ironton High School, a member of the class of 1966.

He was preceded in death by his father.

In addition to his mother, he is also survived by his wife, Susie Riggs Woods; a daughter, Debra Delong of Ironton; a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas Lee II and Cathy Woods, of Ironton; five grandchildren, Jeffrey Delong, Steven Delong, Lesley Delong, Sebastian Woods and Mackenzie Woods; a brother and sister-in-law, Ron and Cindy Woods, of Springfield, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jim and Pat Riggs, of Ohio Furnace; and his nieces and nephews, Joey Woods, Chelsey Woods and Clint Woods.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Tracy Brammer Funeral Home with the Rev. Chad Pemberton officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
