SOUTH POINT — Russell J. Phillips, 71, of South Point, died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008, in Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House of Huntington, WVa. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Schneider-Griffin Funeral Home with Minister Michael Whitehead officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery, Ironton.

Russell was born Nov. 30, 1936, in Buckhannon, WVa., a son of the late Russell B. and Una Madeline Long Phillips. Russell was a member of the Community of Christ Church in Ironton,, served three years in the Navy, and retired in 1993 from the Army Corps of Engineers, Greenup Locks as Lockmaster. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Conley. Russell is survived by his wife, Regina Stanley Phillips of South Point; one son, Mark Phillips of Huntington; one daughter, Melinda Queen of South Point; two grandchildren whom he adored, Alison and Sara Queen; one brother and sister-in-law, Glen and Betty Phillips of Clinton, N.C.; two special friends, Charlie Watson and Carolyn Adkins both of South Point; and a host of friends and relatives.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House for their compassionate and outstanding care they gave Russell. James H. Ferguson

SOUTH POINT — James H. Ferguson, 78, of South Point, died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008, at Heartland of Riverview. He was the husband of Gilberta Beard Ferguson, who survives. Arrangements are pending at Tracy Brammer Funeral Home.
