Beauty contestants will help Ironton celebrate its 150th birthday next month during the first-ever Ironton Sesquicentennial Beauty Pageant. Young women up to 21 years old may participate for trophies, sashes and other prizes at the pageant, planned for Sept. 11 at Ohio University Southern Campus during Festival of the Hills.
Registration begins at 10 a.m. The youngest entrants begin competing at 11 a.m.
Age categories include Baby Miss, 0-11 months; Littlest Miss, 12-23 months; Teeny Miss, 24-35 months; Tiny Miss, 3-5 years; Little Miss, 6-8 years; Pre-teen Miss, 9-11 years; Teen Miss, 12-15 years; Senior Miss, 16-21 years.
Pageant organizers will announce winners and places at 3:30 p.m.
One all-around winner will receive a $50 savings bond. Every child will receive a trophy.
The Senior Miss queen will receive crown, trophy, sash and one free at OUSC. The queen also will ride in the Christmas Parade and Memorial Day Parade.
Admission to the festival will get spectators and family members into the pageant, held in OUSC’s Bowman Auditorium in the Collins Center.
There will be a reception after the pageant for contestants and a special pre-pageant waiting room filled with movies, games and other activities while contestants wait their turn to compete.
Pre-registration is required. The pageant will use reverse entry for registrations, meaning last entry received in each age group will be first on the stage.
Entry fees are $25 for beauty, $15 for fashion, $10 for poise, $15 for personality and $60 for all categories.
Entry fees are non-refundable. Families who enter more than one child may also deduct 10 percent from entry fees.
The pageant is sponsored by Festival of the Hills, Ironton Sesquicentennial Committee, OUSC, OUSC Travel and Tourism Department and Cyndi’s Studio.
