Carlton Malone

April 19, 1942-March 15, 2002

PEDRO – Carlton "Cart" Malone, 59, of Pedro died Friday at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell, Ky.

The Pedro native was born April 19, 1942, the son of the late Alfred T. and Nellie O. Blagg Malone.

He was the husband of Suzanne Crisp Malone, who survives.

He was employed at Collins Mining Company of Hanging Rock and the Clark Wire of Ironton. He attended Pedro school and was a member of Warneke Chapel Church.

He also was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Malone; and one sister, Carrie Crisp.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Johnny Newman at home, Ida and Michael Anson of Ironton and Carrie and Charles Mullins of Pedro; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Carlton H. and Jamie Malone of Pedro and Alfred R. Malone at home; 10 grandchildren, four of which he raised in his home; three brothers, Alfred C. Malone, Ronald Malone and Thomas Malone, all of Pedro; and one sister, Margaret Crisp of Waterloo.

Funeral will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Etna Missionary Baptist Church, with the Revs. Leon Dalton and Leslie Boggs officiating. Burial will be in Lawrence Furnace Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.

Buster Wallen

Nov. 8, 1922-March 16, 2002

SOUTH POINT – Buster Wallen, 79, of South Point died Saturday at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky.

The Prestonsburg, Ky., native was born Nov. 8, 1922, the son of the late Will and Polly Ann Pigman Wallen.

The U.S. Navy veteran served during World War II and was a former employee of White Farm Equipment Company in Columbus. He was a member of the Ironton VFW Post 8850 and was a Protestant. He attended Wheelwright schools in Prestonsburg.

He also was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Beth Ann Johnson.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Charles Adams of Coal Grove; one granddaughter and her husband, Amy and Shawn Jordan Newman of Loganville, Ga.; for grandsons, Wayne Jordan and William Jordan, both of Kitts Hill, Mike Jordan of Coal Grove and Jeff Jordan of Columbus; one step grandson, Todd Adams of Flatwoods, Ky.; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Brinie Branham of Prestonsburg; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hayes-Phillips Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bill Cade officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, veteran section, with military graveside rites by VFW Post 8850. Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Kimberly Sartain

MORRISTOWN, Tenn. – Kimberly Sue Sartain, 45, of Morristown died Thursday at Baptist Hospital in Knoxville. She was the wife of Alvin Sartain, who survives. Funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Mayes Mortuary. Burial will be in Fairfield Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the mortuary.

 

Richard Johnson

PROCTORVILLE – Richard Johnson, 58, of Proctorville died Saturday at his home. Arrangements are pending at Hall Funeral Home.

 

Ella Zirkle

PROCTORVILLE – Ella Zirkle, 28, of Proctorville died Sunday at St. Mary’s Hospital in Huntington, W.Va. She was the wife of David Zirkle, who survives. Arrangements are pending at Hall Funeral Home.

 

Elmer Trusty

PROCTORVILLE – Elmer Trusty, 72, of Proctorville died Sunday at St. Mary’s Hospital in Huntington, W.Va. He was the husband of Roberta Trusty, who survives. Arrangements are pending at Hall Funeral Home.

 

Bartha Wilburn

FLATWOODS, Ky. – Bartha Lee Wilburn, 53, of Flatwoods died Saturday, after a sudden illness. Arrangements are pending at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods.

 

Shirley Scaggs

PEDRO – Shirley Scaggs, 86 of Pedro died Sunday at a local nursing home. Arrangements are pending at Phillips Funeral Home.

 

Catherine Toothman

Catherine Toothman, 55, of Ironton died Sunday at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky. She was the wife of Bob Toothman, who survives. Arrangements are pending at Phillips Funeral Home.

 

Fred Leffingwell

FLATWOODS, Ky. – Fred Leffingwell, 68, of Flatwoods died Sunday at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland. He was the husband of Rachel Leffingwell, who survives. Arrangements are pending at Phillips Funeral Home.
