Local, state and federal government offices are closed today in observance of the national Labor Day holiday.
And, garbage companies in Ironton and throughout the county have changed schedules.
Today’s closings include the courthouse, Department of Human Services and other agencies.
Ironton and Lawrence County health departments also will close.
Ironton city offices will not open, but utility customers needing to report an emergency can do so by calling the numbers listed in the phone book, officials said.
Garbage service in Ironton will be one day late because of the holiday, meaning customers with normal pickup on Monday can set trash out Tuesday while Tuesday customers receive trash pickup on Wednesday, and so on. The make up trash day will be Saturday for Friday customers.
South Point, Proctorville, Coal Grove and other village halls will close for Labor Lay.
BFI in South Point will run its trash pickup one day late. In other words, customers can set trash out on Tuesday and Thursday this week instead of Monday and Wednesday.
Selection Services garbage service, with daily routes in eastern Lawrence County, will run its usual schedule this week, owners said.
The Monday and Tuesday Chesapeake pickups will be the same, they said.
The Sybene Senior Citizens Center will be closed, but those persons who receive delivered meals throughout the week have already received enough food to get them through Tuesday, officials said.
