"Between Friday and Monday the 6th, we investigated 19 crashes," said P. Baire, OHP dispatcher. "Of those, 10 were accidents with injuries, but they were minor injuries. We didn’t have any serious injuries."

The 19 county traffic accidents are above average for a weekend, but about normal for a holiday weekend, Baire added.

"It’s about average for us for a holiday weekend, but compared to a regular weekend, traffic was a lot heavier, so in that respect, it was above average," he said. "Luckily, I don’t think we even had any fatalities in the whole district."

Drivers in other regions, however, were involved in crashes that ended in fatalities, OHP officials said.

At least 20 people died in traffic accidents in Ohio over the long Labor Day weekend, according to traffic reports and information compiled by The Associated Press.

That was one fewer than the 21 killed during the same 96-hour period in 1998. The patrol counted fatalities from Friday through Monday.
