OAK HILL – Rock Hill coach Andy Hall might have seen it coming. His Redmen were stunned by Oak Hill 41-8 Friday night.

"It was embarrassing," Hall said. "We had a bad week of practice. We knew from the scouting report what they were going to run out of which formation we were just not ready to play."

Scott Turley led the Redmen with 61 yards on 16 plays and quarterback Gabe Medinger had 54 yards passing hitting on six of 13 tries. Rock Hill (2-1) had 185 yards total offense.

Oak Hill was led by Chad Russ with 164 yards on the ground on 14 carries and teammate Josh Nelson racked up 79 yards on eight tries. The Oaks (3-0) had 314 yards on offense.

"This was a flat surprise," Oaks coach Merril Triplett said. "We have a very solid defense but we don’t have any stars. This is just a very tight unit."

The tone may have been set right away as the Redmen fumbled the first play of the game and the Oaks recovered at the Redmen 29-yard line.

Oak Hill chipped away with three and four-yard gainers and scored on a 4-yard carry by Russ. Josh Brunton added the point after making it 7-0.

Rock Hill looked to draw even with a 12-play 64-yard drive. Medinger’s fourth down pass fell short at the nine yard line ending the drive.

On its next possession Oak Hill faced a third and short and handed off to Russ. Russ seemed bottled up twice only to bounce outside and finish off a 74-yard run with a touchdown at 2:29 of the opening period.

With 8:31 left in the half the Oaks mounted another scoring drive. A 51-yard romp by Nelson set up a 1-yard sneak by Brunton who also added the point after making it 21-0 at the half.

To start the second half again the Redmen looked poised to score when they went a 13-play drive. The drive, which took over seven minutes, stalled deep in Oak Hill territory.

The Oaks then went on a drive that would put the Redmen away for good. Russ got loose for his third touchdown this time from 30 yards out making it 28-0.

Russ scored his fourth and final touchdown with 9:11 left in the game and two minutes later Zach Lester scored the Oaks final touchdown making it 41-0.

Rock Hill got on the board with an 8-play 57-yard drive that ended when Grant Lunsford went in from a yard out. Travis Gilmore hit Josh Noel for the two-point conversion making it 41-8.

"We learned a valuable lesson tonight," Hall said. "I guarantee we will get better. This week, we will have better practices, I guarantee it."

Rock Hill will host Portsmouth West next Friday.
