The Flyers reached a high water mark in victories with a school record of nine soccer wins as they beat the New Boston Tigers 3-1 Thursday at Clouston Field.

"It’s nice for the kids. I just hope they can continue on and not stop there," Flyers coach John Schwab said. "We just have to keep our heads and play one game at a time."

St. Joe, now 9-0-2 on the season including six shutouts, took a 1-0 lead the first half on a direct kick by Charley Yaniko at the 28:40 mark.

Pat Malone scored off an assist by Eric Waginger to put the lead at 2-0 early in the second half. The Flyers put the game away when Waginger scored at the 66:07 mark as Malone repaid his teammate with an assist.

New Boston scored on a penalty kick at the 72:20 mark.

"The kids looked good tonight. We tied them the first time we played, so it was nice to come back and win," Schwab said.

New Boston slipped to 4-6-1.

The Flyers host Rose Hill (Ky.) Christian at 5:30 p.m. next Thursday.

South Point 4, Poca 1

SOUTH POINT – The young and inexperienced South Point Pointers continued their improvement as they won their second game of the week by beating the Poca (W.Va.) Dots 4-1 Thursday.

Jared Waggoner turned a hat trick with three goals and Monty Samokoski had a hand in two goals to lead the Pointers.

Samokoski scored an unassisted goal at the 16:02 mark to put the Pointers up, but Poca tied it moments later at 1-1.

Waggoner then got an assist from Samokoski at the 14:01 mark to put the Pointers up for good.

Waggoner’s third goal off an assist by Mark Wiley stretched the margin to 3-1.

The final South Point goal was scored unassisted by Waggoner at the 39:40 mark of the second half.

South Point, which lost 14 seniors from least year’s team, improved to 2-8-0. The Pointers play at Huntington St. Joe Friday.

Poca fell to 1-9-0.
