The Ironton Bicycle Drug Free Club is hosting its second free skating party from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Spare Time Recreation in Ironton.

Youths can bring their own skates, but those without skates may rent a pair for $1. The Snack Bar will be open.

The club wants to promote a good time in a safe atmosphere.

"This is something to keep kids from getting into trouble," club director Coy Bacon said.

"The program tries to teach respect and how to have the right attitude toward living. The group goes on many outings and it’s a way for members to come together with each other in support."

During the summer months,the clubs rides its bicycles through the streets of Ironton.

"We ride around in our T-shirts to let people know we’re drug free and that we stand against drugs," said Shante Lewis, bicycle club member.

The club will sponsor future skating parties on Thursdays, Nov. 4 and Dec. 9.

The skate party is sponsored by Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Ironton, First Baptist Church of Burlington, and Mitzi Howard.
