All three schools are sending football teams to the first round of the state playoffs, hoping to win a chance to advance in the hunt for the state title.

It took a lot of hard work to get where they are. Most of these players started preparing for this season last summer, working long hours during the day, doing drills and learning plays.

And the regular season itself is not easy, either. Practices during the week, games every Friday or Saturday night, not to mention the travel to and from the contests and the weight-conditioning in between.

So, this weekend, they deserve to be able to look up into the stands and see plenty of hometown fans there to cheer them on. There will probably be several car caravans going to each of the games. Fans who can get away should think seriously about joining the fun.

There will be a winner and a loser tonight in Chesapeake’s game and on Saturday night during the Symmes Valley and Ironton battles.

No matter what the result of any of the games, there will be plenty to cheer about come Monday morning.

These young men have done their county proud just getting the opportunity to try to make it to the state championship game.

And while fans are clapping for the players, they should clap for the band and the cheerleaders, too. They have put in a lot of hours, too. Spirit and music don’t come without a lot of practice, either.

Don’t let a chance to celebrate something special in the county pass you by. Join in the fun. Your support will be noted – and appreciated.
