Marshall beats Golden Griffins

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – J.R. VanHoose scored 24 points and Cornelius Jackson hit 14 of his 21 points in the second half to lead Marshall to an 85-77 victory over Canisius at the Hoopfest tournament Saturday.
Down 43-40 at halftime, Jackson’s 3-pointer gave Marshall a 58-55 lead with 13:45 left in the game. Jackson had four 3-pointers in the second half.
Travis Young added 14 points and Tamar Slay had 13 for Marshall.
Dorian McClure scored 21 points to lead Canisius. Darren Fenn added 18 and Dale Sawyers had 12.
The game was the season opener for both teams.
