Herd pastes Stony Brook at Hoop Fest

Binghampton, N.Y. – Tamar Slay had 19 points including four 3-pointers to lead Marshall to a 81-52 win over Stony Brook Sunday in the Binghamton Hoop Fest. The win was the second in two days at the Hoop Fest as the Herd defeated Canisius 85-77 Saturday.

Slay also had two assists and four rebounds in the game and was named MVP for the game.

Stony Brook, 0-2, who is new to Division I basketball this season, scored just three points in the last 10 minutes of the first half and Marshall outscored Stony Brook 35-10 in the first 10 minutes of the second half. Deon Dobbs had eight points and three steals during the second-half run for Marshall.

Marshall, 2-0, had four players who scored in double digits: J.R. Van Hoose had 14 points, Travis Young had 10, and Joda Burgess had 13 points after coming off the bench.

For Stony Brook, Josh Little had 14 points including four 3-pointers.

Slay opened the second half with a pair of three-pointers that gave the herd a double digit lead and they never looked back.

VanHoose’s pair of free throws and a three-point play next time down gave Marshall a 25-point lead at 49-24.
