MINFORD – The South Point Pointers played a halfcourt game Tuesday. Unfortunately, that was only part of it.

Pointers coach Mark Lafon said the Pointers must play better defense in order to avoid another game like Tuesday night when they lost 70-63.

"We’re better than last year, but Minford played well and shot the eyes out of it. We didn’t play very well defensively and we have to do that in order to have a chance of winning," said Lafon.

B. J. Ferrell had a game-high 23 points to lead South Point. Jarred Perdue was next with 18 while Brian Cremeans and Shane Holsinger had 9 each.

"We scored enough to win, but we didn’t ‘D’ (defense) it up," said Lafon.

Ferrell and Perdue had 27 points between them as South Point took a 36-35 halftime lead.

Smith scored 6 points the third quarter but Minford came out and ran off six straight points to open the half and took a 54-52 lead after third quarter.

Andy Montgomery scored 10 points and Dustin Caudill had nine to lead Minford in the second half. Eli Parks led Minford for the game with 20 points while Montgomery scored 18 and Caudill 12.

"It seemed like every time they needed a run, they got it," Lafon said.

The Pointers, 1-1, host Marietta Friday.
