Chesapeake – The Chesapeake Lady Panthers might not have been able to buy a basket the fourth quarter, so it’s a good thing they had plenty in their account.
After building a 15-point lead, Chesapeake struggled the fourth quarter by scoring only 5 points. But the lead was enough to hold off the Green Lady Bobcats 58-54 Monday in a non-league game.
"We played well in spurts," Chesapeake coach Lynn Sheets said. "We made only two field goals the fourth quarter and we had to take our press off. And we had four starters with four fouls plus we couldn’t buy a shot.
"Fortunately we had enough left in us to get the win. Green has a good team. They’re better than last year."
Kati Fuller scored 23 points, grabbed five rebounds, and had five steals and four assists to lead Chesapeake to its sixth straight win after three losses to open the season.
Erin Sutphin added 16 points and six steals while Kim Fry had three steals and Lindsey Stiltner had five rebounds.
Megan Tackett had a game-high 24 points to lead Green. Jennifer Cline had 15 points, 12 rebounds, three steals, and two assists for the Lady Bobcats. Courtney Moore had six steals and four assists.
"We had a bad first quarter and a bad third quarter," Green coach Melissa Brown said. "We knew we had to play well and we did. Chesapeake has a great team."
Sutphin scored 8 points the first quarter to offset 6 by Tackett as Chesapeake took an 18-12 lead.
Fuller had 8 points the second quarter but Tackett scored 10 and it was 36-30 at the break.
Chesapeake built its 15-point lead in the third quarter as Fuller scored 9 points.
But the Lady Panthers made only 1-of-7 from the line the fourth quarter as Green outscored Chesapeake 16-5. Still it wasn’t enough as Green slipped to 5-2 on the season.
Chesapeake hosts Fairland Thursday in a key Ohio Valley Conference game. Green entertains Symmes Valley next Monday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

Raceland 50, Symmes Valley 40
WILLOW WOOD – The Raceland Lady Rams used a late spurt to pull away and beat the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings 50-40 Monday in a non-league game.
Symmes Valley trailed just 42-40 late in the game, but a missed layup and three turnovers enabled the Lady Rams to get the win.
"We played hard, we just made a few defensive errors. The turnovers weren’t a problem with being so many, but rather when they occurred," Lady Vikings coach Rob Bess said.
The loss wiped out a 24-point performance by Renee Donahoe for Symmes Valley. Donahoe also had eight rebounds.
Rebecca Mount had eight rebounds and three blocked shots while Holly Wilson had three assists in a losing effort.
Raceland took an 11-3 lead the first quarter against the cold-shooting Vikes. Symmes Valley was just 14-for-51 from the floor for the game for 27.5 percent.
