Heroes come in many forms. Some earn their titles once – in a spectacular incident that requires extraordinary response in a situation that is fraught with danger. Others earn their community’s respect and admiration slowly and with little fanfare. No one really knows how much of a difference these everyday heroes have made in the lives of others until they compare notes.

Dr. Harry Nenni was that kind of hero.

His patients and colleagues knew him as a dedicated doctor who cared, greeting everyone he met with a ready smile and a warm heart.

His friends knew that he was loyal, honest and a man who lived by a set of values that set family and friendship at a premium.

His community knew that Dr. Nenni gave of himself, working hard to make Ironton stronger not only for his family, but for his neighbors and friends.

His family knew him as a loving and proud husband, father, brother and grandfather – one of his most precious monnikers.

Although he had other titles during his career, Dr. Nenni wore that of "family physician" proudly. His caring, patience and skill touched the lives of generations of Ironton residents – and his kindness remains a fond memory for many of those who sought his services.

Although not a comfort now at the time of his passing, Dr. Nenni’s family should know that he will live on in the hearts of the many people who called him "doctor" – or friend.

His passing is a great loss to not only his family, but to his community as well.
