Coach Melissa Brown said Green didn’t want another one-point game with East, so the Lady Bobcats devised a defense to take away the inside game of the Tartans.

"We shut them down inside which is exactly what we wanted. (Kelli) Day and (Sarah) Conley had about 20 points each the last time we played them, so we went to a real tight zone and shut them down. That was the key," said Brown.

The two combined for just 13 points. Sarah Flannery led East with 17 points.

Green was led by Megan Tackett who had a game-high 24 points to go along with seven assists and eight steals. Courtney Moore had 16 points five rebounds, three assists, and three steals, and Jennifer Cline yanked down 12 rebounds.

Green is now 8-3 overall and leads the SOC with a 7-0 record.

"We haven’t played in 11 days, so you can only practice so many days. It felt like Christmas break again. I was wondering how we’d play, but we played pretty well," Brown said. "I was pleased we could come out of a break like that and play well."

Tackett scored 10 points the first quarter as Green took a 12-3 lead.

Moore got eight points as Green opened up a 29-11 halftime lead.

Six more points by Tackett in the third quarter extended the lead to 41-21.

Moore scored six in the fourth as Green held its lead.

The Lady Bobcats host Portsmouth Clay at 6 p.m. Thursday and entertain Ashland (Ky.) Saturday.

Symmes Valley 54, Notre Dame 43

WILLOW WOOD – The overtime pay for the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings was good: a win.

The Lady Vikings needed overtime to beat the Portsmouth Notre Dame Lady Titans 54-43 Monday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

Lady Vikings coach Rob Bess said patience and rebounding were the keys to the win.

‘We did a nice job of taking care of the ball and being patient, and then we got up on them and got the rebound when they shot. We’ve been having trouble with defensive rebounding," said Bess.

Keren Bell and Holly Wilson had 16 points each to lead Symmes Valley. The duo also had 11 rebounds apiece while Rebecca Mount grabbed 10 rebounds.

Christy McGraw led Notre Dame with a game-high 25 points.

Notre Dame led 8-6 after the first quarter, but Wilson scored eight points the second quarter as Symmes Valley came back to take a 20-16 lead.

Bell had five points the third quarter as the Vikes opened up a 35-21 lead, but Notre Dame rallied in the fourth quarter thanks in part to some crucial Viking turnovers to tie the game at 42-42.

"We had some key turnovers (the fourth quarter) when we tried to be patient and slow it down. But we also worked it inside and got some good shots," said Bess.

Bell scored four points in overtime as the Lady Vikings outscored the Titans 12-1 to get the victory.

Symmes Valley, 2-9 and 1-6 in the SOC, hosts Portsmouth East Thursday in a league game.
