The Symmes Valley Vikings worked to make the latter happen as they blasted the Rebels 67-42 Tuesday in a non-conference game.

Mooney did score 19 points, but Bess was held scoreless as the Vikings improved to 6-7 on the season.

"We felt that if we slowed down Mooney and Bess, we’d have a chance to win," Vikings coach Brent Wilcoxon said. "We were able to slow Mooney a little and we stopped Bess and that was the key."

While the defense was taking care of Mooney and Bess, the offense rolled along behind the scoring of Justin Myers who had 21 points and 18 rebounds.

Noah Henson added 11 points, Brad Carpenter handed out eight assists, and Travis Wilson had eight rebounds and Jeremy Copley grabbed six.

Henson nailed a pair of 3-pointers the first quarter as the Vikings got up 15-11.

Owens came off the bench to score seven points the second quarter and the lead grew to 31-20 at the half.

The Vikings blew the game open the third quarter as they outscored the Rebels 19-9 as Myers scored eight points to build a 50-29 cushion.

J. T. Pierce scored nine points off the bench the fourth quarter.

"We played well in spurts," said Wilcoxon. "Myers played well and Brad played well, and a bunch of people off the bench did a nice job. Owens and Pierce did a good job off the bench."

The Vikings plays at Portsmouth Notre Dame Friday in a conference game.
