Green exploded for 32 points the first quarter and coasted past the Portsmouth Clay Lady Panthers 62-36 Thursday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

Courtney Moore scored 15 of her points including a pair of 3-pointers the first quarter and Jennifer Cline had 10 more as Green blitzed Clay 32-4.

"Courtney was hitting all her shots. She came out firing," Green coach Melissa Moore said.

"We played well. Clay is very young, but I still think Clay is going to sneak up on someone. They’ve already improved."

Moore finished with 21 points and five assists. Cline had 16 points and 11 rebounds and Megan Tackett added 13 points, eight steals, and three assists.

Green is now 9-3 overall and in first place in the SOC at 8-0.

Symmes Valley 53, Portsmouth East 49

WILLOW WOOD – Getting an inside stop put the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings on top.

The Lady Vikings took away the inside scoring of the Portsmouth East Lady Tartans Thursday to avenge an earlier loss and post a 53-49 Southern Ohio Conference win.

"We did a better job stopping them inside. We’re a little more consistent on defense. We played good overall team defense. We didn’t give up the points inside that we usually do," Vikings coach Rob Bess said.

Symmes Valley (3-9, 2-6 SOC) placed four players in double figures led by Keren Bell with 15 points and 10 rebounds. She also had four steals.

Renee Donahoe scored 12 points while Jessica Myers and Holly Wilson added 10 points each.

Sarah Conley scored 13 and Kelli Day and Jessie Mullins 11 each for Clay.

Clay tied the game late, but two foul shots by Bell put the Lady Vikings back ahead.

East missed several shots and Wilson finally got the rebound and was fouled. She sank both free throws with 10 seconds to play to seal the win.

Bell and Wilson were 6-of-6 from the foul line the fourth quarter for the Vikings.

The Vikings took a 12-8 first quarter lead. East cut a point off the lead the second quarter by outscoring Symmes Valley 13-12, but six points by Wilson kept the Lady Vikings up 24-21.

Myers had seven of her points and Donahoe five as the Lady Vikings pulled away to a 43-31 lead the third quarter and set the stage for the thrilling finish.

Symmes Valley hosts South Gallia Monday in a non-league game.
