Mark Patton, a 6-foot-7 sophomore, had 27 points and 16 rebounds while 6-4 senior Bryan Paynter scored 22 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.

The Knights (7-6) outrebounded the Pointers 42-24.

"They wore us out. We just couldn’t handle them," Pointers coach Mark Lafon. "But even though we were outrebounded, we were still in it."

Shane Holsinger had a game-high 29 points to lead the Pointers (5-9). B. J. Ferrell, who was named to the all-tournament team, added 15 points, four assists, and four steals.

Trailing just 17-16 after the first quarter, the Pointers rallied in the second quarter. Holsinger drained four straight 3-point goals that vaulted the Pointers into the lead at 39-33 at the half.

But Patton and Paynter took over the second half and put the Knights ahead 53-50 after three quarters, then outscored the Pointers 23-17 the fourth quarter.

"We’re playing better teams. We’re playing our guts out, but we don’t have any wins to show for it," said Lafon. "We took care of the ball. Most of our turnovers were the first half."

South Point hosts Chesapeake Tuesday in a crucial Ohio Valley Conference game for the Pointers.
