PEDRO – Wyatt Earp was a heck of a gunslinger in the old West. If he were a live today, he would have had some competition Monday night.
Rock Hill did some mighty fine shooting as the Redwomen enjoyed their best shooting night of the season, hitting 27 of 47 shots for 58 percent in a 72-65 win over the Minford Lady Falcons.
Leading the shooting barrage were Mandy McDonie with 23 points and Michelle Matkins with 20.
"We shot the ball really well. Michelle shot well the first quarter, then they went to a zone on Michelle and Mandy McDonie picked it up," Rock Hill coach Tracey Mullens said. "Those two played very well."
Bobbie Clark added 11 points to the winning effort. Jordan Edwards had five rebounds and three steals.
Matkins had a solid all-around game with five rebounds and four assists to add to her point total.
Matkins had 10 points first quarter and Edwards five more as Rock Hill held a slim 21-19 lead.
But McDonie scored 12 points the second quarter as the Redwomen surged to a 38-30 halftime lead.
Matkins and McDonie combined for nine points the third quarter as the cushion grew to 53-42.
Clark got eight of her points the fourth quarter with Matkins and McDonie added four each as Rock Hill picked up the victory.
The win over Minford improved Rock Hill’s record to 14-3.
"They’re a good ballclub. They’ve got a good program and they always play a tough schedule," said Mullens.
Amanda Porter had 17 points, Christy Skaggs 16, and Leah King 10 for Minford.
