KENT – Mike Perry came off the bench to score all his seven points in an early 20-3 run that turned the game around as Kent beat Marshall 84-73 Monday night in Mid-American Conference action.

KENT – Mike Perry came off the bench to score all his seven points in an early 20-3 run that turned the game around as Kent beat Marshall 84-73 Monday night in Mid-American Conference action.

Kent (18-4 overall, 10-3 MAC) was trailing 16-7 early in the game when Perry hit a jumper with 14:15 to go in the first half to begin a 20-3 run that put the Golden Flashes ahead for good 27-19 with 10:13 left.

Perry also hit a second jumper and a 3-point shot during the spurt.

Marshall (15-7 and 7-6) was led by J.R. Van Hoose’s 18 points. Tamar Slay had 16.

Slay hit a layup with 9:55 to go to stop the Kent run and also hit a second jumper as Marshall got within 29-26 with 8:14 left in the first half.

But a 3-pointer by Trevor Huffman, who shared team scoring honors with John Whorton with 15 points, started a 16-0 run that put Kent ahead 45-26 with 1:29 to go. Kent led 47-28 at halftime.

Kent led in the second half by as much as 21 points, 67-46 with 10:36 to go, on a 3-pointer by Andrew Mitchell, and the closest score all his seven points in an early 20-3 run that turned the game around as Kent beat Marshall 84-73 Monday night in Mid-American Conference action.

"This was not an 11-point game. It was a 20-point game,"Marshall coach Greg White said.

‘We’re still right in the thick of things," White said regarding the conference standings. "I’m not going to beat my team up tonight. (Kent) is a good basketball team."
