In a two-day roundup, the three juveniles and Johny L. Browning, 18, 1414 S. First St., Ironton, were arrested on charges of possession of marijuana, IPD Detective Capt. Chris Bowman said.

Browning and a 15-year-old fellow student were arrested Thursday after Ironton High School vice principal Lance Clanton passed the students in the hallway and smelled an odor he believed to be marijuana, IPD reports said.

After calling the students into his office and asking them to empty their pockets, IPD officers were summoned by telephone to the school when the boys were found to be carrying the illegal drug. Browning and the 15-year-old male student were arrested and charged with possession of marijuana, Bowman said.

"Browning will be tried in Ironton Municpal Court as any adult would," Bowman said.

Arrests continued Friday when a second 15-year-old Ironton male was arrested on Third Street for violating curfew, underage consumption of alcoholic beverages and possession of marijuana, Bowman said.

"The boy was walking on Third Street and one of our officers stopped to assist him," Bowmans said. The arrest was made shortly thereafter.

As a result of another unrelated incident Friday, a 16-year-old Huntington, W.Va., female also will face charges of possession of marijuana in Ironton Juvenile Court.

IPD reports show that Russell, Ky., officers attempted to stop a vehicle containing the female suspect and a male driver and radioed to IPD when the driver would not pull over. After crossing the Ironton-Russell Bridge, the driver was successfully stopped by an IPD officer, reports said.

"The male driver was cited for not stopping and the female was arrested for possession of marijuana," Bowman said.
