PEDRO – The Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers had only one real problem in Monday’s Division III sectional tournament game.
But what a problem.
The Lady Fighting Tigers were plagued with more than three dozen turnovers in a 75-44 loss to Minford.
Ironton’s big problem rolled up 37 turnovers. Minford had 23 turnovers, but the Lady Falcons compensated by converting 24 of 34 from the foul line.
Ironton got a big game from Sarah Herman who had 18 points and 12 rebounds. Jessica Ensor added 10 points before fouling out, and Candace Ferguson pulled down six rebounds.
Minford had three players in double figures led by Amanda Porter with 24 points and six rebounds. Erica Donahoe had 17 points while Cristi Skaggs scored 13 points.
Minford will now play at 1 p.m. Saturday against Fairland for the sectional title. Ironton finishes the season 6-10.
Ensor had eight points and Herman six as Ironton trailed just 16-15 at the end of the first quarter. Donahoe had eight points to help put Minford ahead.
Ironton’s offense disappeared the second quarter behind a flurry of turnovers that Minford converted into easy baskets. The Lady Falcons outscored Ironton 25-4 to go ahead 41-19 at the half.
Porter had eight points in the quarter and Minford was 7 of 10 at the line.
Herman scored eight points the third quarter as Ironton outscored Minford 16-15, but the lead was still a comfortable 56-35.
The Lady Falcons were 11 of 16 at the line the fourth quarter while holding Ironton to nine points.
