Despite an off shooting night, the St. Joe Flyers managed to use a strong defense to beat the Ohio Valley Christian Defenders 58-45 Tuesday night.

The Flyers were only 21 of 60 from the field for 35 percent including a meager 10 of 36 the first half for 27.8 percent.

"We couldn’t throw it in the ocean the first half. We got good looks, we just couldn’t put the ball in the basket," Flyers coach Kevin Sheridan said. "We won every quarter, but we just didn’t shoot the ball well."

Eric Waginger had 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Flyers, now 14-5. Matt Frazer was right behind with 16 points and nine rebounds, Bub Waginger had 11 points, five rebounds, and three assists, Andy Stack 11 points and six rebounds, and Bill Dressel five rebounds.

Adam Holcomb got 16 points and Josh Sanders 14 for the Defenders.

Frazer scored five points and Stack and Eric Waginger four each the first quarter as St. Joe went in front 15-12.

Eric Waginger got six points the second quarter as St. Joe extended its lead to 24-19 at the break.

The Flyers came back to make 11 of 24 shots the second half and the production reach 34 points.

Eric and Bub Waginger and Frazer all scored five points the third quarter as St. Joe moved in front 41-32.

Frazer scored six and Bub Waginger four the fourth quarter and the Flyers were 7 of 8 from the line down the stretch.

"It wasn’t pretty, but we’ll take it," Sheridan said. "OVC is a good team. They’re having the best season they’ve ever had, so it isn’t like we weren’t playing anybody."
