Portsmouth’s two big men were in early foul trouble, but South Point was unable to take advantage as the Trojans posted an 83-68 win Tuesday night.

Portsmouth’s size advantage with Rodney Cameron and Greg McKinley, both standing 6-foot-5, produced a 47-25 dominance in rebounding.

McKinley had 19 points to lead four players in double figures. Jeremy Greene scored 16, Jonah Booker 12, and Jerry Jordan added 10.

"We had both Cameron and McKinley in foul trouble and couldn’t take advantage of it," Pointers coach Mark Lafon said.

Brian Cremeans had a game-high 28 points to pace the Pointers. Shane Holsinger scored 20 and Jarred Perdue added 10.

"B. J. (Ferrell) was sick and only had two points, and everyone in the locker room was hacking and coughing. That may have been a factor," said Lafon.

Greene scored eight points the first quarter as Portsmouth jumped in front 20-14.

Derrick Thompson came off the bench to score four points and Jordan had six as Portsmouth extended its lead to 37-29. Cremeans had five points and Perdue four to keep the Pointers close.

Holsinger got hot and scored 10 points the third quarter, but Portsmouth’s balance continued to separate the two teams. Booker scored six while McKinley and Greene had five each to make it 58-46.

Cremeans took over the fourth quarter and hit three shots from behind the arc and scored 15 points.

But McKinley had 11 points and the Trojans converted 9 of 10 free throws as they continued to pull away.

Lafon was also bothered by the Pointers 19 turnovers.

"We turned the ball over too much. Every time we had a chance to make a run, we’d turn the ball over," Lafon said.

South Point, 7-12, hosts Fairland Friday in the regular season finale.
