"We played well for the first time out and for being such a young team," Ironton coach Mark Lewis said. "We hit the ball pretty well and we made some nice plays in the field.

"Chad threw the ball well and Greg Mountain did a real nice job. Chad’s only a sophomore and Greg is just a freshman, so they did really well considering it was their first game."

Greenup took a 2-0 lead in the first on doubles by Ryan Wells and Ryan Hall and a base hit by Tony Martin.

Drew Mains slammed a solo home run in the bottom of the inning to cut the deficit to 2-1, but Greenup made it 3-1 in the second inning.

John Kibbey’s single, a hit batsman, and an RBI single by Hall capped the rally.

Ironton came right back in the bottom of the second as Jimmy Peyton crushed a long home run to left following a walk to Matt White that tied the game.
