Down 4-3 going into the sixth, the Fairland Dragons scored 18 runs en route to a 21-4 belting of Wahama Friday night.

Fairland coach Roger Snyder thought his team was due to break out of its unproductive hitting, but even he was astounded by the eruption.

"For five innings we hit the ball, but it would be a line drive that they would pick off. I was thinking this would be a game where we’d keep hitting the ball right at them all night. Finally, things started falling for us," Snyder said.

Wahama got a run in the first before Fairland tied the game in the second when Toby Morrison tripled and J. W. Jones grounded out.

Wahama went up 4-1 in the bottom of the inning only to have Fairland score twice in the fifth to make it 4-3.

K. C. Jones doubled and scored on Ryan Boso’s triple. Jeremy Louden grounded out as Boso scored.

Then came the explosion.

A total of 23 batters went to the plate and no out was recorded until 15 batters had hit.

The inning was fueled by six walks and nine hits. Boso had a two-run double, and Jarrod Schneider and Ryan Paragon each had a two-run single.

Boso, who got the win as he went the first five innings, went 2-for-4 with four runs batted in. Toby Morrison was 3-4, Kyle Leadmon 2-4, and Jarrod Schneider 1-1 with three RBI.

Fairland, 2-1, plays at Rock Hill Monday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
