A Greensburg Salem High School Class of 1987 graduate, Cook attended the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg, Pa., and at the main campus. While there, he studied business administration before beginning his career in the newspaper industry.

"I started as a district manager at the Tribune Review in Greensburg," Cook said. "I was district manager for three years and then I was promoted to senior district sales manager."

Within a year, Cook left the Review for one of its sister newspapers – the Daily Courier in Connellsville, Pa.

He worked at the Courier for two years as a circulation manager. He also assisted in the marketing and advertising departments.

Cook said he and his new wife, Jennifer, are settling into the area nicely.

"I like it here," Cook said. "It seems like a closer knit community than I’m used to. It seems like the people are willing to help you left and right. It’s very impressive."

And Cook plans to make the most of his time in Ironton.

"First, we’re going to get acclimated to the area," he said. "Then we’ll join some community organizations. We want to meet a lot of people. We want to get to know not only the area, but the people in the area."

Cook began his position at the Tribune March 27. He and his wife live in the Ironton area with their two pets: Ace, the dog; and Murray Curry, the cat.

"Randy brings a strong background in sales as well as community service to his job as ad director at The Ironton Tribune," said Jennifer Allen, publisher.

"We are happy to welcome him to our newspaper family as well as to the community," she added. "We look forward to working with him and helping him become involved in area activities."
