Green outhit Fairland 10-6 Thursday, but nine walks helped the Dragons get past the Bobcats 5-4.

"I’m pleased with our defense, but you can’t defend a walk," said Shoupe.

Green took a 1-0 lead in the first when Chris Williams singled, stole second, took third on Jeff Dixon’s hit, and Rick Perkins had a sacrifice fly.

The lead went to 2-0 in the top of the third. Dixon singled, courtesy runner Joe Salyers swiped second, and Perkins was safe on an error as Salyers scored.

Fairland came back with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Toby Morrison, Kyle Leadmon, and J. W. Jones, Josh Dunfee, and Jarrod Schneider all walked to force home the runs.

The Dragons went up 3-2 in the fourth when Ryan Boso singled and came around on a hit by Morrison.

The lead went to 5-2 in the fifth.

J. W. Jones had a solo home run, Eric Ellis walked, Boso singled, and Jeremy Louden had a run-scoring single.

Green got two runs in the seventh.

Williams singled, stole second, and scored on a double by Dixon. Perkins followed with a hit to drive in Dixon, and Kyle Dyer walked. But a double play and a strikeout ended the game.

Morrison got the win and Dunfee the save. Dixon took the loss for Green.

Green, 2-2, hosts Portsmouth East Friday, then travels to Portsmouth Saturday. Fairland (3-2) hosts South Point Monday.
