The two things coaches preach in baseball are pitching and defense, and that’s just what Green did Friday as the Bobcats beat the Portsmouth East Tartans 7-1 in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

Rick Perkins pitched a six-hitter and the defense didn’t make an error as the Bobcats improved to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in the SOC.

"We just played the glove. You preach pitching and defense, and that’s what we did today," Shoupe said. "It was a great defensive ball game. Again no errors, great production from the bottom of the lineup, and Rick pitched a super game."

Green had nine hits was Rick Perkins, Chris Williams, and Justin Voiers all went 2-for-3.

Williams got Green’s scoring underway in a two-run first inning. He singled, stole second, took third on a passed ball, and, and Perkins walked, scored on a base hit by Kyle Dyer.

Tate Bockway grounded out as a run scored.

The lead went to 3-0 in the second when Voiers and Williams singled and East committed error.

Two more scored in the fourth.

Voiers singled, Jimmy Moore walked, Brad Bainer was hit by a pitch, Williams was hit by a pitch to force in a run, and Dixon hit into a fielder’s choice to score the second run.

The final two runs scored in the sixth when Dixon and Perkins doubled and Dyer reached on an error.

The Bobcats play at St. Joe Tuesday.
