Take a few minutes this week to look at a child and realize the potential within each young person. That potential can grow and blossom or it can be snuffed out as quickly as a candle.
Beginning today, the Lawrence County Early Childhood Center will celebrate the Week of the Young Child. The celebration will continue until April 14, with special activities every day at the daycare.
Parents of children who attend the center are welcome to attend the many music, craft and puppet programs. And all county residents are welcome to come to the open house Thursday. Representatives from more than 30 local agencies will be on hand to answer questions about the different services available and there will be a carnival for the young ones to enjoy.
Educating a child to be the best he or she can be is an important job, but it also is a difficult one. There are agencies out there that can help so that childlike wonder and possibility is not replaced by depression, despair and apathy because of a lack of opportunities.
Everyone with a child, or who is thinking about becoming a parent, should attend the open house. A child is not expected to know everything, but an adult is expected to take advantage of every opportunity available to increase the knowledge of said child.
