"That’s the game we wanted. We’re 7-2 now and the only two we’ve lost were to them," Ironton coach Pete McCloud said. "They’re a good team, so it means something to get a win over them."

The game was originally scheduled at Ironton, but wet grounds moved the game to Portsmouth although Ironton remained the home team.

Carly Isaac and Rachel McClellan singled and Ashley Carmon doubled to put Ironton up 1-0 in the first inning.

Portsmouth came back to tie the game in the fourth on a solo home run by pitcher Megan Felts.

The game remained tied until the bottom of the seventh when Ironton mounted its winning rally.

Carmon walked to start the inning and Lona Hager went in to run. Hager stole second, took third on a passed ball, and, after Melissa Cielec walked and stole second, Ashley McCloud singled home the winning run.

Ironton finished with six hits.

"We’re getting the hits when we need them and we’re running the bases well," said coach McCloud. "Hager did a great job for us in the seventh. She’s a young player who is going to be a factor in this team down the road."

Ironton hosts South Webster at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
