Matt Riffe’s first game this season was a two-hit shutout as he pitched the Green Bobcats past the Beaver Eastern Eagles 11-0 in five innings Friday.

Riffe, who held Eastern hitless for four innings, struck out four and did not walk a batter.

"Riffe had a nice game for the first time out this season," Green coach Dave Shoupe said. "We got the job done. It was a good day all the way around."

The Bobcats had 13 hits with Chris Williams, Jeff Dixon, and Riffe each going 3-for-4. Rick Perkins was 2-4.

Green scored all the runs it needed with two in the first.

Williams walked, stole second, and Dixon had an RBI single. A passed ball sent Dixon to second where he scored on Perkins’ base hit.

A run scored in the second when Williams singled, stole second, and Dixon got a base hit.

The lead went to 5-0 in the third.

Riffe doubled, Tim Willis was hit by a pitch, and Justin Voiers had a run-scoring double. Jimmy Moore hit into a force play to drive in the second run.

The Bobcats got three runs in each the fourth and fifth innings.

In the fourth, Williams tripled and Perkins reached on an error. Perkins stole second, Kyle Dyer walked, and Riffe lined a two-run double.

In the fifth, Moore walked, Brad Bainer singled, the runners moved up on a fly ball, and Dixon had an RBI single. Perkins’ base hit drove in the second run. Dyer walked and Riffe had a run-scoring hit to cap the rally.

Green, 4-2 and 3-1, played in a tournament at Evarts, Ky., Saturday.
